brownsville song (b-side for tray)

brownsville song (b-side for tray) is a story that follows a high school senior,

Tray, who is on a journey to break the stigma of young men who live in the

neighborhood. Although his attempt seemed quiet to him, his profound

actions were heard when violence strikes. This story encourages us to look at

how our society values groups of people, and to promote change where

possible.

My design goal was to create a bubble of sorts for the characters to

emulate the neighborhood they live in, and what resources are available to

them based on their family structure, as well as financial situation. To achieve

this, I researched street photographers of the early 2000’s-Present, as well

as looking into what stores are available in the Brownsville and East Flatbush

neighborhoods of Brooklyn, NY. With the use of color and silhouette, I was

able to emulate passage of time and maturity.
